Greenock's Former IBM Site to Become Major Data Centre Complex
Plans to develop a former IBM site in Greenock into a data centre complex have been revealed. The site, located at Spango Valley, operated from 1954 to 2017 before being demolished in 2020.
The developer believes the site's scale and existing infrastructure make it an ideal location for a data centre. They propose building four structures providing around 80,000 sq m of floorspace, along with landscaping, parking, and sustainable drainage systems.
The plans also include preserving the majority of the existing woodland surrounding the site. A separate proposal to install a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is part of the overall project.
