Grok vs. Anthropic: Microsoft's Default Setting Reveals Structural Gap
Microsoft has added Grok models from SpaceXAI to its Copilot feature in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint through the Frontier program as a preview for eligible customers.
The announcement on September 12, 2026, came with a condition: the setting is disabled by default. This means administrators must take action to enable it.
This sets Grok apart from Anthropic's models, which were already available in Copilot and enabled by default for all eligible tenants since May 4, 2026.
The difference lies in the fact that opt-out positions like Anthropic reach every tenant that does nothing, while opt-in positions like Grok require administrators to make an affirmative choice, even if the existing configuration is functioning.
