Gujarat Businessman Loses ₹10 Lakh in WhatsApp Video Call Scam
A 54-year-old businessman from Bodakdev, Gujarat lost ₹10.23 lakh after falling victim to a cyber fraud on September 4.
The victim, Jigneshbhai Jasbhai Patel, was watching videos on YouTube when he came across an advertisement for an HSBC Bank credit card.
The scammer allegedly posed as an HSBC employee and told Patel that a special premium credit card offer was available for AMEX cardholders.
Patel showed his American Express (AMEX) card to the scammer during a WhatsApp video call, allowing the fraudster to obtain sensitive details including the card number, expiry date, and CVV.
The scammer then changed the credit card password through the system and gained access to the card, carrying out multiple online transactions that totalled ₹10,23,782.
