HAL Delivers First Batch of HTT-40 Trainers to Indian Air Force After Supply Bottleneck Resolution

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is on track to deliver its first batch of HTT-40 trainers to the Indian Air Force, with three aircraft currently ready for handover. The HTT-40s have been in development since 2020, when the government approved a ₹6,838 crore deal for 70 trainers.

The delivery comes after Honeywell successfully resolved supply chain bottlenecks, which had delayed engine deliveries. Under the contract with HAL and Honeywell, 16 engines will be directly supplied by Honeywell, while the remaining units will be produced domestically through a Transfer of Technology arrangement.

HAL has been working to ramp up its manufacturing output, with the ability to produce 20 HTT-40 trainers annually. The HTT-40 is designed for pilot-friendly features, including a state-of-the-art glass cockpit and zero-zero ejection seats.
