HAL Set to Deliver Delayed Trainer Aircraft to Indian Air Force
Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is finally delivering its first batch of delayed HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF), addressing a growing need for pilot training. Three HTT-40 aircraft, built in Bengaluru and Nashik, are ready for delivery.
Originally ordered by the IAF for Rs 6,838 crore in 2023, HAL was required to deliver 12 aircraft between 2025-26 but couldn't meet this target due to engine shortages. The delay was linked to supply chain issues faced by US-based Honeywell, which supplies the TPE331-12B turboprop engines.
Honeywell delivered the first batch of engines a few months ago and assured HAL of timely supplies under their $100 million contract signed four years ago for 88 engines and kits. The company will supply 16 engines, while HAL will manufacture the remaining units.
