HAL Set to Deliver First HTT-40 Trainers to IAF Amid Supply Chain Woes
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to receive its first HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) after a delay due to engine supply issues.
Three aircraft are currently ready for delivery, with two built at HAL's facility in Bengaluru and the third produced at Nashik. The HTT-40 is powered by the TPE331-12B turboprop engine supplied by Honeywell, which has recently overcome supply-chain problems to deliver the first batch of engines.
The HTT-40 programme demonstrates the importance of a reliable defence supply chain and highlights India's ambitions to become a major defence manufacturing hub. HAL and its suppliers will have to support the aircraft throughout their operational life, ensuring engine availability, spare parts, maintenance capabilities, and technical support over many years.
