Hashgraph Group and Merck Launch Cocoa Traceability Solution with Blockchain
The Hashgraph Group and Merck have collaborated to develop a solution for cocoa traceability, which includes physical authentication and blockchain-based digital records. This integrated system aims to strengthen transparency, quality assurance, compliance readiness, and consumer trust in the cocoa industry.
The solution combines TrackTrace Digital Product Passport platform from The Hashgraph Group, Merck's M-Trust physical authentication technology, and PwC Germany's consulting and implementation experience. It connects each physical product with a trusted digital identity, allowing brands, processors, and manufacturers to improve traceability, auditability, and stakeholder transparency.
The solution addresses the challenges of fragmented documentation and self-declared claims in the cocoa supply chain. By linking products to origin, chain-of-custody, authentication, and due diligence data, companies can demonstrate that their products are deforestation-free, legally produced, and supported by verifiable production-area information.
The solution is designed for use in sectors where provenance, authenticity, quality, and regulatory compliance are critical. It has the potential to be scaled up beyond the cocoa industry and applied to other areas such as food, pharmaceuticals, luxury goods, electronics, and industrial components.
