Heatwave Leaves £3m Mega-Reservoir Dry, Exacerbating Food Shortage Fears

A £3m mega-reservoir on the Elveden Estate in Suffolk has been left almost completely dry after the UK heatwave, putting pressure on a large food operation.

The reservoir was finished in October last year and had the capacity for the equivalent of 200 Olympic-sized pools, but it has now been depleted to just a few cubic meters of water.

The Elveden Estate is one of the largest ring-fenced arable farms in lowland Britain and produces onions, potatoes, and carrots for McDonald's.

Managing director Andrew Blenkiron said it was 'going to be tight' to support 10,000 acres of farmland following what he described as an 'incredibly testing' year due to the drought and heatwaves.
