Herrera Elected WSA President, Vows Continued Focus on Diversity and Inclusion

Andrea Herrera '27, the newly elected president of Wesleyan Student Assembly (WSA), is no stranger to leadership. As a seasoned leader in various campus organizations, Herrera has a proven track record of collaboration and dedication.

Herrera's involvement on campus includes her roles as president for several groups, including the Latin American Student Organization and the Women of Color Collective. She was also part of the United Student Labor Action Coalition and is currently serving as the president of the Wesleyan QuestBridge Chapter. In addition, Herrera helped revitalize the Wesleyan Student of Color Pre-Law Society, which she will be transitioning into a senior advisor role soon.

Managing her busy schedule, Herrera attributes her success to using Google Calendar effectively and prioritizing activities that align with her passions. When asked about her involvement in admissions, Herrera shared that it began when she received an email from the office of admissions suggesting she apply for QuestBridge during her senior year. She was initially hesitant but decided to give it a try and ranked Wesleyan as her top choice.

Herrera's work within admissions focused on initiatives to make Wesleyan more welcoming, particularly in response to the overturning of affirmative action policies. One notable project she spearheaded was the WesExplore program, which aimed to improve hosting experiences for prospective students. She also worked on a student writing campaign that sent letters to students from marginalized identities, assuring them of their place at Wesleyan.
