Historic Home Hopes Dashed by Leaky Chimney
Abby Schwent's family has been busy moving into a new house over the last few weeks, with most of their travel consisting of driving back and forth between the old and new houses.
Their old house has several projects that need to be completed before it can be sold, requiring multiple trips to the hardware store. Home Depot must be thrilled about this development!
Despite the chaos of moving, Abby's new home is a dream come true, a big, beautiful, historic house with soaring ceilings and a sweeping front staircase.
However, on one rainy morning, she woke up to find water pouring into her new kitchen from the penthouse (also known as the third floor) through a chimney seam that had been left unsealed by the roofer. This was not what Abby had in mind when she thought about living in a beautiful house.
She quickly called her father, who happened to be nearby and arrived with fans and a shop vac to mitigate the damage. In total, nearly three gallons of water were extracted from the third-floor carpet.
The roofer apologized for the mistake and sent a crew to fix the roof and a painter to patch up the walls.
