Home Depot Beats Q2 Earnings Estimates, Reaffirms Guidance Amid Housing Market Uncertainty
Home Depot's (HD) second-quarter earnings and revenue exceeded Wall Street expectations, sending its stock higher in pre-market trade on August 18. The company reported earnings per share of $4.92, beating analysts' predictions of $4.73 per share. Revenue came in at $47.86 billion, also above the consensus estimate of $47.27 billion.
CFO Richard McPhail told CNBC that Home Depot is operating in 'frozen housing market conditions,' with consumers holding back on larger projects due to higher mortgage rates and economic uncertainty. Despite this, the company reaffirmed its fiscal 2026 guidance, including sales growth of 2.5% to 4.5% and an operating margin of 12.4% to 12.6%. McPhail said tariff refunds are helping 'maintain value' by partially offsetting unplanned fuel, energy, and other product input costs.
Home Depot also announced the nationwide rollout of its 'Express Delivery' service, allowing customers to receive items within three hours without a subscription or membership. Despite this positive news, some traders expressed caution, pointing out that higher interest rates and fuel prices could pressure the stock and that Home Depot's decision to reaffirm rather than raise its guidance may indicate underlying challenges.
