Home Depot Dividend Streak vs. Walmart's Strong Performance
Home Depot's (HD) dividend record stands at an impressive 17 consecutive years of increases, with its latest payout being $2.33 per share. This streak dates back nearly 40 years, with the company having paid a dividend in 157 straight quarters.
The home improvement retailer is set to report its second-quarter financial results on August 18, which will provide insight into how it's navigating the current market conditions. In contrast, Walmart (WMT) has increased its dividend for 53 consecutive years and operates at a higher level, with shares climbing 130% in the past five years.
Home Depot's same-store sales have been impacted by macroeconomic conditions, decreasing 3.2% in fiscal 2023, falling 1.8% in fiscal 2024, and rising only 0.3% in fiscal 2025. However, the company has consistently generated profits, even during the great recession.
Walmart's strong performance is attributed to its low prices and massive assortment of merchandise across all environments, as well as its push into online shopping through its Walmart+ membership and advertising sales platform.
