Home Depot Steps Up for Veteran in Need
A local nonprofit in North Charleston, South Carolina, has partnered with The Home Depot to help restore a veteran's home. Vernell Dunmeyer, a 76-year-old female Marine veteran, received assistance from Warriors Haven and The Home Depot through their joint initiative called Restoring Hope.
The program is designed to support veterans who are not homeless but face challenges such as financial limitations or lack of transportation to appointments.
Dunmeyer had been struggling with her home's condition for years, including a decade without working kitchen appliances. Her niece, Ruhamah Dunmeyer-Grooms, said the family spent years searching for a reliable contractor before connecting with Warriors Haven.
The Home Depot donated materials and staff to replace Dunmeyer's countertops, backsplash tiling, and appliances, as well as repair her front and back decks. Craig Vanderbilt of Grace Home Customs helped with the renovations.
