Home Depot's Transaction Declines Continue for Fifth Quarter
Home Depot's comparable customer transactions have declined for five consecutive quarters, raising concerns about its sales growth. In the fiscal first quarter, which ended May 3, the company reported a 1.3% decline in comparable customer transactions, with a total of 391.1 million transactions.
The average ticket size, however, rose 2.3% year over year to $92.76, offsetting some of the transaction declines. The company's revenue growth is coming from bigger receipts and acquisitions, rather than an increase in customer traffic.
The streak of declining transactions has been ongoing since fiscal 2025, with a 0.5% decline in the first quarter, 0.4% in the second, 1.6% in the third, 1.6% in the fourth, and 1.3% in the most recent quarter.
The company is expected to report its fiscal second-quarter results on August 18, which will be a crucial test of whether the transaction declines continue or finally turn around.
