Homophobic Abuse Charge Laid After Brighton v Leeds Match
A man has been charged after allegedly making homophobic comments during a Brighton & Hove Albion match against Leeds United.
The incident reportedly occurred at the American Express Community Stadium in Falmer on September 5, during which Leeds took an early lead before Brighton levelled the scores.
Alexander Bishop, 55, of Martlet Way, Brockworth, Gloucestershire, has been charged with using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.
Bishop is due to appear in court on December 3. This incident highlights ongoing efforts by football authorities and clubs to tackle discrimination in the sport.
