Honeywell Sheds Conglomerate Skin to Focus on Aerospace, Automation
Honeywell International (NASDAQ:HON) is embarking on one of its largest transformations in history, aiming to break up into more focused, standalone businesses. The company's sprawling industrial empire spans aircraft cockpits, building systems, and factory floors, but the market has increasingly favored focus over breadth in recent years.
The plan calls for separating Honeywell's major businesses into distinct companies, with aerospace and automation at its core. Aerospace supplies avionics, engines, and systems to aircraft makers, airlines, business aviation, and defense and space customers, while building and industrial automation serve factories and plants with process controls, sensing, and software.
The move reflects a broader shift among diversified industrials, as companies like Honeywell prioritize focus over the traditional conglomerate model. By letting each unit pursue its own path of growth, the company aims to tap into steady demand in aerospace and automation, where recurring revenue streams are becoming increasingly important.
