Hotel Wi-Fi Hacks: Microsoft Warns Travelers of Fake Login Pages

Microsoft has issued a warning to travelers about potential Wi-Fi hacks at hotels. The company says hackers are using fake login pages to steal account credentials from unsuspecting users.

Russian-backed hackers have compromised some hospitality-related Wi-Fi networks, displaying fake Microsoft 365 login pages that appear legitimate. The goal is to trick travelers into entering their usernames and passwords, giving attackers access to their accounts.

Travelers should be cautious when connecting to hotel Wi-Fi networks. Not all hotels use the same system - larger chains often have more robust security measures than smaller ones. Peter Tran, a cybersecurity expert, advises verifying that you're connected to the hotel's legitimate network and avoiding online banking or accessing sensitive accounts while using public Wi-Fi.

Microsoft recommends enabling multi-factor authentication or passkeys to add an extra layer of protection if a password is compromised.
