Hotel Wi-Fi Hacks Targeting Travelers with Fake Microsoft Login Pages

Microsoft has issued a warning to travelers about potential Wi-Fi hacks at hotels. Hackers are using fake login pages to steal account credentials, targeting users who connect to hotel networks. The hackers' goal is to trick travelers into entering their usernames and passwords, giving them access to the victims' accounts.

Russian-backed hackers have been compromising some hospitality-related Wi-Fi networks, displaying fake Microsoft 365 login pages that appear legitimate. Peter Tran, a cybersecurity expert, advises travelers to verify they are connecting to the hotel's legitimate network, especially when using smaller hotels with simpler guest Wi-Fi systems.

Tran also recommends avoiding online banking or accessing sensitive accounts while using public Wi-Fi and instead suggests using a virtual private network (VPN) or mobile phone hotspot. Microsoft advises enabling multi-factor authentication or passkeys to add an extra layer of protection if a password is compromised.
