House Passes Kayleigh's Law Act to Protect Victims of Violent and Sex Crimes

U.S. Representative Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) cosponsored the Kayleigh's Law Act, which aims to protect victims of violent and sex crimes by requiring courts to issue no-contact orders.

The House of Representatives passed the bill on Monday, sending it to the Senate for consideration.

Under the framework established by Kayleigh's Law Act of 2026 (H.R. 8481), no-contact orders must be imposed at sentencing and remain in effect for the lifetime of the defendant unless terminated or suspended according to specified procedures.

The bill is named after Kayleigh Kozak, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse who had to return to court to seek an extension of her protective order when her abuser's probation ended.
