Household Products Stocks Post Strong Q2 Earnings Despite Some Disappointments
The end of Q2 earnings season is a good time to review how household products stocks performed. Central Garden & Pet (NASDAQ:CENT) is one such company, along with other industry leaders like Spectrum Brands (NYSE:SPB), Energizer (NYSE:ENR), Church & Dwight (NYSE:CHD), and Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG).
The household products sector is generally stable due to the essential nature of its products. However, there's a growing emphasis on eco-friendly and sustainable offerings, reflecting evolving consumer preferences.
Central Garden & Pet reported revenues of $882.4 million in Q2, down 8.2% year-over-year. This was still better than analysts' expectations by 0.6%. Despite the top-line beat, Central Garden & Pet delivered the slowest revenue growth among its peers.
Spectrum Brands stood out with a 7.7% year-over-year increase in revenues to $753.3 million, beating analyst estimates by 2.4%. The company also exceeded analysts' EPS and gross margin estimates, resulting in a stunning quarter. However, the market had likely priced this performance into the stock's flat price action since reporting.
