Huang Fires Back Against Circular Financing Criticism
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang fired back at criticism of the company's $500 billion financing platform during the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference. Critics accused the platform of being 'circular financing,' a model where Nvidia invests in AI companies or cloud service providers, which then purchase Nvidia hardware.
Huang countered that the platform is not circular financing because it allows Nvidia to get back a significant amount of capital while only investing a small amount upfront. He cited financial data showing that before deploying company funds into investments, Nvidia verifies that the investee holds real contracts and can generate revenue from customers.
The transactions are seen as a 'very smart strategy' by Huang, helping Nvidia build distribution channels for its technology architecture. Goldman Sachs research also noted that Nvidia's financial guarantees provide seed capital for the ecosystem, with returns and diversification of investors not aligning with the definition of circular financing.
