Huang Predicts AI-Driven Chip Boom Will Continue for Years
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is bucking the trend of predicting a bust in the chip industry. The Motley Fool reports that he believes this cycle won't be like the usual four-year boom-bust cycles, which have historically affected the sector.
Huang's reasoning is that the current demand for chips is driven by industrial needs rather than consumer consumption. He states that AI technology is creating a new layer of infrastructure comparable to energy, the internet, roads, and railroads, making it fundamentally different from previous cycles.
Nvidia has consistently exceeded expectations and raised revenue guidance each quarter, with Intel also delivering strong numbers in Q2 2026 with 25% year-over-year revenue growth. Huang believes that the semiconductor industry is still in its early cycle, not a late one, and expects it to grow significantly over the next few years.
Hyperscalers' capex spending and chipmakers' earnings will be key indicators of whether Huang's prediction holds true. If hyperscalers maintain or raise their capital expenditures and chipmaker earnings continue to rise, it would suggest that the semiconductor industry remains in a boom period.
