Huawei Accused of 20-Year Campaign of Trade Secret Theft
The US Department of Justice has accused Huawei, a Chinese tech giant, of conspiring to steal trade secrets from five US companies over a 20-year period. The allegations date back to 2000 and involve Cisco Systems, T-Mobile, Motorola, CNEX Labs, and Akhan Semiconductor.
Huawei's chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, has already made admissions that will be used as evidence in the trial. The company itself denies all accusations of industrial espionage and intellectual property theft, claiming it is simply innovating and competing with other companies.
The US government's opening statement described Huawei's actions as a 'prolonged campaign of theft' aimed at dominating the telecommunications industry worldwide. However, Huawei's defense claims that everything was ordinary business dealings, not criminal conduct.
