Huawei Accused of Stealing Trade Secrets from US Companies Over 20 Year Period
The US Department of Justice has accused Huawei of conspiring to steal trade secrets from five US companies over a period of 20 years.
The charges against Huawei, which owns its staff entirely and not the Chinese government, claim that it misappropriated intellectual property from T-Mobile US, Cisco Systems, Motorola, CNEX Labs, and Akhan Semiconductor.
In an opening statement, Department of Justice trial attorney Taylor Stout said: 'For 20 years [...] Huawei, a massive Chinese telecommunications company, victimized American companies and abused the American financial system, all in an effort to dominate the telecommunications industry around the world.'
Huawei's defense claims that everything was ordinary innovation, rather than criminal activity.
