Huntington Convicted of Murder in Deadly Truck Dispute
An Otero County jury has convicted Ty Huntington of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the shooting death of Mario Reyna. The incident occurred on December 13, 2024, when a dispute over a truck escalated into a deadly confrontation.
Huntington and his stepmother had taken the truck from Reyna while he was at Home Depot. When Reyna recovered the truck the next day, Huntington returned to confront him, armed with a .45-caliber handgun.
The prosecution argued that Huntington tried to provoke Reyna into a fight, but when Reyna refused, he fired a single shot, striking Reyna in the abdomen. Reyna died at the scene.
Huntington faces a life sentence for the murder conviction and additional penalties tied to the tampering-with-evidence conviction and his habitual-offender status.
