IBM and Algorithmiq Demonstrate Quantum Advantage Through Simulation of Heterogeneous Matter
IBM and Algorithmiq have made significant progress in quantum computing by demonstrating quantum advantage through the simulation of heterogeneous quantum matter. This achievement has been ongoing for eight months, with no classical method able to reliably produce results across the full problem regime studied.
The team at Algorithmiq, led by senior scientist Sergey Filippov, developed a model of heterogeneous quantum matter in which information propagates through regions with different local properties. The resulting dynamics were designed to be experimentally accessible on today's quantum hardware but challenging for leading classical simulation techniques.
To address the challenge of trusting quantum results when no classical computer can verify them, Algorithmiq and IBM developed a new framework for trusted quantum computation. This involved noise manipulation, building representative models of underlying noise in devices, and demonstrating stability across multiple processors.
