IBM and Arm Unveil Dual Architecture Processor for Enterprise Systems
IBM and Arm are collaborating on a groundbreaking dual architecture processor designed for future IBM Z and LinuxONE systems. The processor will have the ability to natively execute both IBM and Arm instructions, allowing Arm and IBM software environments to coexist within the same enterprise system.
The chip is built on a 2 nanometer technology node and features 11 high-performance cores operating at over 5.7 GHz. It also includes AI inference accelerators for in-transaction fraud detection and a dedicated on-chip data processing unit for I/O acceleration.
Christian Jacobi, Chief Technology Officer and IBM Fellow, stated that this processor represents a significant architectural advancement for IBM Z and LinuxONE. He believes that by bringing Arm natively to their platform, they are combining access to one of the industry's fastest-growing software ecosystems with the qualities that have made IBM systems the foundation for how businesses run today.
