IBM and Together AI Team Up for Open-Source AI Infrastructure
IBM has partnered with AI cloud company Together AI to deploy a large-scale NVIDIA HGX B300 cluster on IBM Cloud for open-source AI inference. The agreement, valued at $240 million over multiple years, will make available a dedicated cluster for inference on IBM Cloud in Q1 2027.
The NVIDIA HGX B300 systems are designed to provide 30 times the AI factory output of previous generations, and Together AI plans to use this capacity to expand its offerings for enterprise customers using open-source models.
Together AI's CEO Vipul Ved Prakash explained that the company chose IBM and NVIDIA due to their product roadmaps and ability to provide GPU capacity. 'Enterprises want the performance of the best frontier models without the closed-model price tag, and that only works if the infrastructure underneath is fast and reliable at scale,' he said.
IBM's General Manager for Cloud Alan Peacock noted that AI factories are becoming essential enterprise infrastructure. 'With NVIDIA HGX B300 systems and NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet networking on IBM Cloud, IBM and Together AI will deliver an accelerated computing platform to help enterprises deploy open-source AI with the performance, efficiency and scale required for real-time AI services.'
