IBM Backs Physics Acceleration Firm BQP as Revenue Skyrockets
IBM Ventures has backed physics acceleration firm BQP in an investment round that brings the company's total funding to $8 million. The stake was taken alongside existing backers Venn10 Capital and Monta Vista Capital, although IBM did not disclose the size of its commitment.
The partnership between IBM and BQP dates back to 2023, when the firm joined the IBM Quantum Network. Since then, BQP's software has sped up engineering physics calculations for customers in aerospace and defense.
According to BQP, contracted and committed revenue has increased eightfold since its 2025 seed round, with customer numbers tripling over the same period. The company attributes this growth to its production solver, QuantumNOW, which runs on existing CPUs and GPUs, rather than requiring a quantum-native version.
BQP's Founder and CEO Abhishek Chopra commented that the industry had spent years treating physics acceleration as a hardware problem, but it was always a software issue. The company aims to push beyond defense into electric vehicle battery thermal management work in India with its new funding.
