IBM CEO Admits Execution Shortfall, Sees Rebound Ahead
IBM CEO Arvind Krishna admitted that the company fell short in executing its strategy during the second quarter of fiscal 2026, but claimed that they are already seeing a rebound.
The shortfall was attributed to a sudden shift by clients towards hardware and cybersecurity-focused software, away from IBM's core offerings. This led to a delay in closing large deals, with Krishna stating that 'about' one-third of the affected deals had since closed.
However, the company is optimistic about its prospects, citing the strength of its business and its ability to drive shareholder value. Krishna pointed to plans to increase the use of AI to help scale software development, bolster sales and marketing efforts, and optimize supply chains.
The company's recent acquisitions, including Red Hat, HashiCorp, and Confluent, are also seen as a key driver of growth, with Krishna highlighting their potential to expand IBM's presence in the market.
