IBM Deploys Quantum System Two in Switzerland with Lockheed Martin Partnership
IBM has launched its first Quantum System Two hub in Switzerland, partnering with Lockheed Martin and hosted at ETH Zurich's Swiss National Supercomputing Center. This collaboration aims to provide direct access to IBM's quantum hardware and software resources for industries, startups, and universities across the country.
The new center will support research, education, and industrial use cases related to next-generation computing, including joint projects on quantum sensing and additive manufacturing with ETH Zurich. This move is part of IBM's broader efforts in advancing quantum computing, which also includes a planned $10 billion investment in this area.
IBM's partnership with Lockheed Martin and armasuisse may provide the company with sticky relationships within government-backed and defense-linked ecosystems. However, the success of the ETH Zurich hub will depend on its ability to translate theoretical concepts into practical applications, particularly in areas such as chemical simulation, financial optimization, or aerospace design.
