IBM Executive and WWII Vet John Henry Lock Sr. Passes Away at 99
John Henry Lock Sr., a veteran and former IBM executive, passed away on August 17, 2026, at his home in Durham, NC. He was 99 years old.
Born in Memphis, TN, to William and Alice Anderson Lock, John grew up in Fulton, KY, where he worked with his father on the railroad for several years. He served his country in both WWII and the Korean War, continuing in the Army Reserves until retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after 30+ years of service.
John graduated from the University of Kentucky and began his career at IBM, where he spent 34 years before founding and organizing the company's first credit union. He is survived by his wife, Dianne Swaine Lock; their four children; and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude's or Samaritan's Purse are suggested in honor of John's charitable spirit.
