IBM Powers Up Tennis with AI-Fueled Innovations for 2026 US Open
IBM has announced that it will be introducing AI-powered innovations for the 2026 US Open, in collaboration with the United States Tennis Association. The new experiences aim to make live tennis more personalized, informative, and interactive for millions of fans worldwide.
The Live Updates homepage will allow fans to prioritize their favorite players and access relevant matches, stories, and analysis quickly. A key feature is Serve Quality, an AI-powered metric that analyzes serving mechanics across all 254 singles matches. This involves tracking data points such as wrist movement, accuracy, consistency, and energy transfer using IBM's Bob's limb-tracking technology.
Another enhancement is the Likelihood to Win feature with Key Moments, which explains turning points and momentum shifts influencing a match. Additionally, Match Chat has been upgraded, allowing fans to ask questions in natural language and receive conversational answers based on live match data, historical statistics, and analysis.
These innovations demonstrate IBM's ability to combine AI, data infrastructure, and intelligent agents to reshape sports engagement. By transforming complex court-level data into accessible insights, the company is helping fans gain a deeper understanding of the game through advanced technology.
