IBM Predicts Quantum Computing Boom by 2028
IBM CEO Arvind Krishna said quantum computing could have a significant impact on IBM's revenue and profit by 2028 or 2029. He stated that investors may not need to wait much longer for the technology to become a meaningful business for the company.
Krishna explained that IBM has grown increasingly confident about the long-term economic potential of quantum computing, predicting it will create a trillion dollars in value by the end of the 2030s. He believes this is achievable due to the unique capabilities of quantum computers, which can solve certain problems more efficiently and cost-effectively than classical systems.
IBM has been investing heavily in quantum technology, including plans to build a standalone chip foundry with a $1 billion commitment from the U.S. Department of Commerce. The company is competing with other tech giants like Alphabet Inc. and Rigetti Computing to bring quantum computing into commercial use.
