IBM Revolutionizes Enterprise Computing with Dual-Architecture Processor
IBM has made a significant leap in enterprise computing by unveiling its next-generation dual-architecture processor for IBM Z and LinuxONE. This revolutionary design will bring Arm-native applications to IBM's flagship mainframes and servers, broadening software choice for enterprises.
The new processor, announced at the Hot Chips conference, marks the first milestone to emerge from the collaboration between IBM and Arm established in April 2026. It enables organizations to run operating systems and applications on both the IBM and Arm compute platforms in future IBM Z and LinuxONE systems.
With this processor, enterprises can run Arm-native Linux environments simultaneously with z/OS and Linux on IBM Z, while benefiting from IBM's established security, reliability, and scale. The new processor is built on a 2 nanometer technology node and contains 11 high-performance cores operating at more than 5.7 GHz.
IBM CTO Christian Jacobi said, 'This processor represents a significant architectural advancement for IBM Z and LinuxONE.
