IBM Stock Plummets 19% on Disappointing Q2 Results
IBM's stock price has taken a hit, plummeting by nearly 20% since July 14 after the company reported disappointing second-quarter results. The quarterly revenue of $17.16 billion fell short of Wall Street's consensus estimate of $17.46 billion, leading to a decline in investor confidence.
The tech giant's legacy business segments have been facing headwinds due to clients shifting their capital towards artificial intelligence infrastructure, diverting funds from IBM's traditional product portfolio.
However, the company's quantum computing operations are drawing increased interest, with Susquehanna's James Friedman noting the significant scientific achievements in this area. Despite contributing minimal revenue at present, IBM has invested in quantum computing research for over two decades and has made notable breakthroughs.
