IBM Teams Up with OpenAI for Enterprise AI Push
IBM and OpenAI have announced a partnership to bring enterprise AI solutions to businesses. The deal involves training-heavy efforts, not just a licensing agreement, covering areas such as Codex, API, cybersecurity, and consultative solutions.
According to Mike Healy, a managing partner at IBM Consulting, the training will be through OpenAI's Partner Network, with IBM creating a special group called Forward Deployed Experts. The two companies plan to co-market products and build industry-specific tools for financial services, government, telecommunications, and retail.
This partnership extends OpenAI's strategy of reaching businesses through consulting and tech partners instead of building an enterprise sales force from scratch. For IBM, the deal widens its range of outside AI partners, as it has previously made deals with Anthropic and still sells its own Granite AI models through watsonx.
The aim is to provide companies with flexibility in their AI choices, as the market continues to shift rapidly. The partnership also deepens an existing relationship between the two companies, which started working together on cybersecurity in June through OpenAI's Daybreak Cyber Partner Program.
