IBM Teams Up with OpenAI to Bolster Enterprise AI Capabilities
The technology giant IBM has formed a partnership with OpenAI to bring advanced AI capabilities to its enterprise clients. The collaboration, announced on August 13, 2026, involves incorporating OpenAI's latest products and technologies into IBM Consulting Advantage.
This includes GPT-5.6, Codex, and ChatGPT Work, which will enable IBM consultants to utilize OpenAI's technology during work for their clients. The partnership will focus on three key areas: financial activities, application modernization, and cybersecurity.
In the area of finance, IBM will assist enterprises in migrating from older processes to AI-driven ones. For application modernization and software development, the company's consultants will use Codex and ChatGPT Work. Cybersecurity is also a priority, with IBM developing its relationship with OpenAI through the use of Daybreak and Autonomous Security.
The partnership will also see the creation of an OpenAI Practice within IBM, which aims to provide expert-level certifications for thousands of consultants and engineers through the OpenAI Partner Network. Additionally, IBM will create on-premises capable teams and join OpenAI's Elite Partner tier.
