IBM Tries to Rebound with $240M Deal After Historic Stock Collapse
IBM has announced a significant partnership with OpenAI, integrating its GPT-5.6 model into IBM's consulting platform, just one month after the company's stock price plummeted by 25% in a single day.
The deal will see IBM embed OpenAI's frontier models, including Codex and ChatGPT Work, into its IBM Consulting Advantage platform, which provides consulting services to clients in finance, procurement, and human resources.
As part of the agreement, IBM will also establish a dedicated OpenAI Practice staffed by thousands of consultants and engineers with expert-level certifications. This practice will focus on deploying AI solutions in heavily regulated environments, including financial services, government, telecommunications, and retail.
The partnership aims to address the challenge of securely integrating AI technology into complex corporate systems, as highlighted by Andy Baldwin, global senior vice president of IBM Consulting.
