IBM is pushing the boundaries of chip technology with its latest innovation - a dual-architecture processor that can execute both Z and Arm software simultaneously. The company claims this breakthrough will bring together the vast Arm software ecosystem with mainframe traditional strengths: scalability, performance, high-availability, and security.

The next-generation IBM Z chip will feature 11 IBM Z cores designed for performance and reliability, operating at over 5.7 GHz clocks and utilizing a 2nm process technology. These cores will handle both Native z/Architecture and AArch64 execution on the same core. The chip also features an SMP Fabric on the top and bottom, as well as other advanced accelerator IPs.

IBM's dual-ISA core allows for seamless integration of Z and Arm software, eliminating the need for emulation or separate core types. This innovation is expected to bring significant benefits to enterprises running complex workloads, including improved performance and security.
