IBM Unveils Dual-Architecture Mainframe Processor with Arm Support

IBM has unveiled a dual-architecture processor for its mainframes, marking a significant milestone in its collaboration with Arm. The new chip is designed to run both IBM and Arm compute platforms on future IBM Z and LinuxONE systems.

The processor, built on a 2 nanometer technology node, contains 11 high-performance cores operating at more than 5.7 GHz. Each core can natively execute both Arm and IBM Z instructions concurrently.

The dual-architecture design will allow organizations to run Arm-native Linux environments simultaneously with z/OS and Linux on IBM Z.
