IBM Unveils Faster FCM5 FlashCore Modules for DS8000 Storage Array

IBM has upgraded its DS8000 storage array to use faster flash drives. The new FCM5 FlashCore Modules have speed and capacity increases over their predecessors, the FCM4s.

The company's Storage product Marketing Manager, Fabian Alejandro Ruelas, says Release 10.2 shifts the focus from simple capacity management to a platform that is inherently Always Manageable and Always Resilient.

The fifth-generation IBM FlashCore Module (FCM5) within the newly designed HPFE Gen 3 E3 enclosure transforms storage economics across the data center. Each drive has up to 134 TB of provisionable capacity, with an SLC zone for faster writes and reads, and data tiered in the drive between the two zones.
