IBM Unveils Qiskit Fermions for Quantum Computing Compilers

IBM has released Qiskit Fermions 0.1.0, an open-source software library and transpiler extension designed to preserve system structure during transpilation in quantum computing.

The package addresses the compilation gap between interacting particle physics, such as quantum chemistry and condensed matter simulation, and standard qubit-based processors.

Qiskit Fermions maintains operations within a domain-specific 'fermionic circuit' layer throughout early compilation, delaying transformation into qubit gates until the final transpilation phase.

This approach preserves physical symmetries and particle-number conservation rules deeper into the compilation pipeline, achieving constant-depth scaling in 1D Fermi-Hubbard time-evolution benchmarks.
