IBM Ventures Invests $8 Million in Physics Acceleration Startup BQP
IBM Ventures has invested in BQP, bringing the company's total funding to $8 million. This investment extends the technical relationship between IBM and BQP that began in 2023 when BQP joined the IBM Quantum Network.
BQP plans to use the capital to expand its BQPhy platform from engineering design into operational deployments, scale delivery and go-to-market capabilities, and expand beyond aerospace and defense. Since its 2025 seed round, BQP has increased contracted and committed revenue eightfold, tripled its customer base and grown platform users by 20 times.
BQPhy is designed to accelerate high-fidelity physics simulations by using GPU computing capacity that conventional physics solvers leave underutilized. The company's technology can propagate a catalog of more than 3,000 space objects in under one second, approximately 250 times faster than the open-source Orekit solver.
Abhishek Chopra, Founder and CEO of BQP, said 'An engineer with a deadline doesn't care where the answer came from. They care that it arrived in time and that the physics is right.' Emily Fontaine, Global Head of IBM Ventures, added 'What stood out with BQP is that users don’t have to change how they work to get quantum-accelerated results.'
