IBM Veteran John 'Jack' Guintire Passes Away at 89: Remembered for Kindness and Community
John 'Jack' Guintire, an IBM veteran and devoted grandfather, passed away on July 29, 2026, at his daughter's home in Firestone, Colorado. Born on April 21, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jack grew up with a strong Scandinavian spirit that stayed with him throughout his life.
After serving in the United States Navy from January 1955 to an unspecified date, Jack began his long and successful career with IBM. He married Janet Sale in 1959 and had three children, JoAnne (now deceased), John Jr., and Christine. The family moved several times due to Jack's work with IBM, including a stint in Chicago before returning to Minnesota.
Jack's curiosity and problem-solving skills made him an exceptional Field Engineer at IBM. He earned numerous service awards for his dedication and expertise, which eventually led to his retirement in 1992 from the Boulder, Colorado facility. However, he continued working as a supplemental employee until 1998.
