IBM's Quantum Leap: Nighthawk r2 Boasts 25x Throughput Gain
IBM has made significant strides in quantum computing with its new Nighthawk r2 processor. This 120-qubit processor boasts a throughput of over 100,000 quantum circuits per second, representing a 25x increase from IBM's previous Heron systems. The key improvement lies in a new reset system that enables qubits to be prepared for the next circuit much faster, reducing idle time without sacrificing gate accuracy.
The Nighthawk r2 also supports resets during a circuit, which will aid researchers in testing more advanced quantum error-correction methods. Notably, IBM has already achieved accurate estimates on circuits containing over 7,500 gates and observed runtime improvements of up to 10 times in certain workloads.
