IBM's San Jose Research Hub Seeks New Zoning Amid Rezoning Debate
The IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose may see updated zoning after the City Council's upcoming meeting. The center, covering 687 acres, currently has a Planned Development Zoning District designation.
A staff report suggests that roughly 35 acres, including the research center's buildings, would be designated as an Industrial Park Zoning District. An estimated 652 acres would be designated as Open Space Zoning District.
The proposed rezoning does not enable a site redevelopment or project approval by itself. Any specific proposals might be subject to more public scrutiny. Some residents have raised concerns about the rezoning effort, calling for open discussion and removal of the item from the consent calendar.
