India Aims to Break Boeing-Airbus Duopoly with 'Made in India' Aircraft
India's aviation sector is undergoing a significant transformation from being a primary importer to a potential global player in aircraft manufacturing. The 'Made in India' C-295 initiative, a joint venture between Airbus and Tata, marks a crucial step towards indigenous production.
The collaboration aims to produce 56 transport planes for the defence forces, with 40 of them assembled in India. This move is part of India's aspirations to develop and manufacture its own commercial aircraft, leveraging its engineering talent and achieving greater self-reliance in the aerospace industry.
In the past, India relied heavily on foreign imports due to government policies prioritizing military aircraft development over commercial ventures. However, recent collaborations with international aerospace giants and a focus on building a comprehensive supply chain ecosystem are paving the way for India's growth in this sector.
