India Expands E-Visa Scheme with 11 New Entry Points
The Indian government has expanded its e-visa scheme by adding 11 new international ports, bringing the total number of entry points to 88. The move aims to enhance the attractiveness and utility of electronic visas, which currently account for 78% of all visas issued in the country.
The additional ports include 9 land ports and 2 airports: Bhopal and Tirupati. This expansion will enable eligible foreigners holding e-visas to enter India at these new locations. The government claims that approximately 95% of e-visa applications are processed within 72 hours.
This development is part of a series of initiatives by the Narendra Modi government to liberalize, streamline, and simplify the visa regime. The goal is to facilitate legitimate foreign travelers while increasing internal security through enhanced technological infrastructure.
