India Orders Google to Shut Down Hundreds of Firebase Accounts Over Alleged Fraud
India's cybercrime agency has ordered Google to suspend hundreds of accounts linked to alleged fraud on its Firebase platform.
The move comes after regulators noticed a pattern of criminals using Firebase to host phishing pages, spyware and databases of stolen financial information.
In August alone, authorities demanded the takedown of at least 57 websites and databases that posed as big Indian banks or were used to obtain credit-card details and data from victims' phones.
Firebase is part of Google Cloud, which generated roughly $25 billion in revenue last quarter.
